Schools Recieving Funding
Located in Chikombedzi Masvingo province in the South of Zimbabwe. Gurungweni ELCZ Secondary School is a young school built in 2017, and commissioned by the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs together with the Ministry of Education on 10 August 2023. It was founded and developed by the Vashandiri (Women’s group) for the Eastern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe(ELCZ) led by Project manager Mrs. Regai Mratu. ELCZ Vashandiri women’s group embarked on the project after realising the number of school drop-outs and early child marriages in the area due to lack of a nearby secondary school for Grade 7 learners after completing their primary level. Gurungweni Secondary School now consists of 5 classroom blocks, 3 Staff houses, a block of toilets and a solar powered borehole. Further, this school is earmarked to be a boarding school of the district in the near future, which is Vashandiri dream to be fulfilled God willing. Additional Partners involved in the development of the school include Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) who provided labor during construction of the school are Bread for The World (Germany), Steinfurt Borkem Church District (Germany), FBC Bank Zimbabwe, Nyaradzo Funeral Services, Moonlight Funeral Services, individuals etc. It is a school of 155 learners and 8 teachers serving the greater Chikombedzi and Gurungweni areas, which reside subsistence farmers. It is the only Secondary school in a 14km radius.
Located in Mberengwa in the Midlands province also in South Zimbabwe serving as a beacon of hope for the underprivileged community of Neta (Village 1, 2,) and surrounding areas. Bungwe Primary school was established/built in 2002 and commissioned by the Ministry of Education in the same year. It was founded by the government and is a school of 596 learners and 24 teachers serving the greater Neta area. It is one of the many schools in the district located in a resettlement area. The community surrounding Bungwe Primary School is characterised by poverty, with many families relying subsistence farming and small-scale mining, which is now failing due to drying wells. The community also grapples with a high rate of orphans, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the school.
